Roofing Before & After in Torrance, CA
Photos tell the truth faster than any sales pitch can. Below are recent roofing transformations we’ve completed across Torrance, from shingle tear-offs in Southwood to leak repairs near Wilson Park. Each job started with water getting somewhere it shouldn’t, and ended with a roof that drains, seals, and holds up to the next decade of sun and Santa Ana wind. The writing on this page explains what you’re looking at. The photos show what we do.

Recent Transformations
Full Shingle Replacement, Old Torrance
Before
AfterThe old roof was a 1990s three-tab that had cupped badly in the afternoon heat, leaving nail heads exposed across the east slope. We tore everything to the decking, replaced two sheets of plywood that had started to delaminate near the chimney, and installed a full GAF Timberline HDZ system with new drip edge and synthetic underlayment. The roofline looks flat and uniform now, and the homeowner no longer finds granule grit in the rain gutters after every wind event.
Valley Flashing Rebuild, Seaside Ranchos
Before
AfterWater was staining a bedroom ceiling below the valley where two roof planes meet. When our technician pulled the old shingles, he found the valley had been woven without any membrane under it, so every heavy rain sent water running under the shingle laps instead of down the channel. We cut in a new open metal valley over self-adhered underlayment and re-laid both slopes to shed water cleanly. The ceiling dried out, the stain was painted over, and the valley has now survived two full rainy seasons without a drop getting through.
Flat Roof Recover, Central Torrance
Before
AfterThis 1950s ranch had a torch-down roof that was cracked to the point of bubbling, and the scuppers had been painted over so many times they barely drained. Instead of a full tear-off, which would have sent debris raining down into the carport below, we pressure-washed the existing membrane, repaired the soft spots, and installed a two-layer modified bitumen recover with new tapered edges at the parapet. The roof slopes to the drains now, and the puddles that used to sit for days after rain are gone by morning.
Chimney Flashing and Counter-Flashing Reset, Hickory Park

The homeowner had been told by two other companies that the chimney itself was leaking, not the flashing. What we found was a bead of silicone caulk running the full perimeter of the chimney, applied over step flashing that had been nailed through the face of the brick and never counter-flashed. We ground a reglet into the masonry, set new step flashing under each shingle course, and locked a counter-flashing into the chase so water physically cannot run behind it. Total repair took one day, and the second visit is covered free for a year if the leak ever comes back.
Low-Slope Awning Rebuild, Walteria

This small awning over a sliding glass door had almost no slope, and the builder had run shingles right up to the stucco wall with no kick-out flashing. Every rain sent water behind the stucco and down the interior wall next to the door. We reframed the awning to add an inch and a half of pitch, installed peel-and-stick underlayment, and added a metal kick-out diverter that directs water away from the wall and into the gutter. The interior drywall is patched and painted, and the wall stays dry even in wind-driven rain off the ocean.
Ridge Vent Retrofit, North Torrance

The shingles on this roof were only eight years old, but the south-facing slope was already beginning to crack, and the attic felt like a kiln in August. Torrance summer sun cooks a roof from above, and without a ridge vent, that heat has nowhere to go except through the shingle mat itself. We cut a continuous slot at the ridge, installed a baffled ridge vent, and capped it with matching GAF shingles. Attic temperatures dropped noticeably within the week, and the shingle cracking stopped spreading.
